Myth#1 Lesser the fat eat, the better it is for weight loss. This is a common myth where people believe that a low fat diet promotes weight loss. Experts recommend that one third of total calories should come from fats. Now, here fat means healthy fats. Nut, seeds, olive oil, Avocado etc. Fats are essential for our body for energy, tissue repair, for transfer of vitamins like A, D, E and K. Experts recommend that male should have 95 gm of fat everyday, minimum being 40 gm everyday & female should have 70 gm of fat everyday, minimum being 30 fm everyday. We should cut down on saturated fat intake. Not more than 7 percent of calories should come from saturated fats. If your calorie intake is 2000, then not more than 140 calories should come from saturated fat that roughly comes upto 16 gm. Saturated fat sources are like red meat, high fat dairy products & butter etc.
Crash dieting may seem to help in the short term but in the long term your weight will increase. Crash dieting removes not just the fat but also learn muscle mass and tissues. Moreover, crash dieting reduces Basal Metabolism Rate. BMR is the rate at which the body uses calories for it's basic functioning. When we do crash dieting then we consume lesser calories after some time body gets use to it. When crash dieting stops we take normal calories, then due to metabolism weight which has reduced is being increased by these extra calories. So, crash dieting in the long term are bad for health.
Myth#3 If the label says fat free, then I won't gain weight. Here we will discuss about packaged food i.e. low fat cakes, biscuit, ready to eat meals. If the label says it's low fat, that doesn't mean it will have lesser calories. This is a marketing gimmick. Even though the label says low fat, it is loaded with extra sugars, flavours, synthetic materials, preservatives etc to enhance taste and texture. So, these extra sugars later convert into fat. Moreover, it is very unhealthy. So next time when you buy such low fat products, check thoroughly what is added in it.
Myth#4 If I exercise, then I can eat as much as I want. You may have heard people say that if you are exercising, you can eat as much as you want. If you are exercising, that is really good. But it is serving only 20 percent of the whole process. Remaining 80 percent depends upon the food you eat. Unless we eat healthy, our body will not produce results. I don't mean that there is no need to workout. My point is that diet is much important.
Myth#5 If I am dieting for weight loss, then I got to be eating only salads. This happens so many times, if we discuss with someone i am looking for weight loss and I am following a proper diet, then he understands you are consuming salads only.
