ACNE is one of the most common skin problems in humans. Almost 80% of people suffer from ACNE at some part of their life. People get ACNE between the age of 11 to 30 years. That's when their hormones are all over the place. When yous body glands overproduced oil, they combine with dead skin cells. This blocks the pores and the hair follicles. Then the bacteria begins to grow in the clogged pores, causing a breakout. Now there are various factors like skin type, genetics which decide the severity of acne.
Here first I will discuss about skin care and then we will talk about nutritional side of things so that you are able to heal acne from the outside and within. So, let us first start with skincare.
SKINCARE
First thing first, if you are suffering from acne, do not touch your face. Constantly touching your face can lead to breakouts. This is because the bacteria can transfer from your fingertips onto the skin. Although, it is very difficult as people are prone to touching their faces on a regular basis but if your skin is prone to acne. Be careful of scratching your face, resting your face on your hand and picking at pimples. Then do not pop up pimple, the risk is that is doing so you will push the infection out of hair follicles into the synoptics this will cause more inflammation making acne longer to heal. Also, the bacteria can spread to non affected areas causing even more acne. And the risk of scars is always there. So never ever pop a pimple.
Second thing, Wash your face twice a day. Cleaning the face often will keep the pillow production low, kill bacteria and rinse away the dead skin cells. Make sure to wash your face gently because if it is vigorously done, it can irritate the skin and aggravate breakouts. Use any face wash which suits you. Tea tree oil based face washes find a special mention because of their powerful antiseptic properties and the ability to heal acne. So wash your face once after getting up in the morning and once before going to sleep at night.
Third is, Drink lots of water. As skin is the largest organ of the body, it is affected when you don't drink ample amounts of water. The toxins, bodily waste and even the bacteria can be trapped within your skin without proper hydration to flush them out which can increase the possibility of acne. So make it a habit of drinking 8 to 12 glasses a day.
Fourth is, Wear a sunscreen. Too much exposure to ultraviolet rays damages the skin and prolongs inflammation causing red acne marks. So, if your skin is prone to acne make sure you apply sunscreen whenever you go out in the sun.
Fifth is, Always take a shower after exercise. If you are prone to acne be sure to take a shower after a workout to remove all the dead skin cells that your body has shed off through sweating. If you can not shower after the workout, at least use a soft wet towel to wipe down and remove most of the sweat.
Sixth is, Avoid smoking. We all know that smoking has negative effects on the skin. Some researchers believe that smoking can cause ar aggravate acne breakouts. So, if your skin is prone to acne, it is better to stay away from all kinds of smoke.
Seventh is, Wash your fabrics regularly. Any fabric that comes in contact with your skin on a regular basis, for example your clothes, towel, pillow cases and sheets should be washed at least once a week to remove all the oil. Bacteria and dirt that has build up on them over the time.
Eight one is for the ladies out there. Unfortunately, make up can cause acne and may make white heads, black heads, pimples inflammation worse. But this does mean that you can not make up at all. The best acne treatment approach is to select make up at all. The best acne treatment approach is to select make up which is labelled non comedogenic. Non- comedogenic products are less likely to clog the pores which can significantly reduce the oil and bacteria build up that leads to acne, inflammation and scars.
Nineth & finally is, Sleep Well. If you aren't getting enough sleep chances are that your skin hasn't had get the time or the ability to renew it's skin cells. Another factor connecting sleep deprivation to acne is the increase in the cortisol hormone of the body. Cortisol in turn causes the skin to secrete more sbum which result in acne. Now that we have done skin care.
Now let's focus on Nutrition.
Our skin cells require proper nutrition for functioning well. Getting proper amount of nutrients from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, protein helps your skin regenerate faster and limits unnecessary oil production. Here are some points that you should consider.
Avoid sugary foods. High sugary foods like sweets, cola, chocolate, packed juices pumps up the production of insulin in your body. To bring down these insulin spikes, your body responds by producing androgen hormones which further aggravate acne.
Stay away from oily and greasy foods. The more oily foods you will eat, the more oil your body will produce and the more prone to acne your skin will be. So cut down all the fired and processed foods from your diet. Stick to home cooked food most of the time. Even at home, instead of using refined oils, switch to better oils like coconut oil or olive oil.
Eat foods which are rich in fibre. Make Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts as a part of your daily diet. They will promote digestion by killing bad bacteria in your gut and will increase the production of probiotics. Including these foods give you essential nutrients that will help you stay away from acne.
Eat foods high in water content. We have already discussed how water flushes out the toxins and prevents acne. Cucumber, watermelon, tomatoes, apples, cabbage are all very high in water content.
Eat food which are rich in Zinc. Zinc is dietary mineral important for skin development as well as regulating metabolic and hormone levels. Researchers have found low levels of zinc linked to high acne cases. Beans, mushroom, lentils, cashews, seeds are some good sources of zinc.
Ok, now two bonus points.
First is exercise regularly. Exercise does a number of things to reduce acne. It releases andorphins which reduces oil production and also makes you sweat which clears out dead skin cells. Try exercising 15-20 mins daily and as we have discussed before, make sure you take a shower after exercising.
Seconds point is, Live Stress free life. The more stressed out you will be, the more you are messing up with your hormones and the more prone to acne you will be. So everyday spend some time doing something which you really like. So friends, these were quite a few tips. I am very sure if you apply these tips. It will really help you out.
And if it doesn't, the next step is to take medication. But before you pop any pills make sure you consult dermatologist. Anyway, acne is a temporary thing. It is not all serious. So make sure it does not affect your confidence levels. I hope you will find it difficult.
